"If only I could stay motivated, I would be the most healthy and fit person I know", for if I have motivation, I can reach just about any goal I set for myself.  Motivation is the largest predictor of success. But how do I obtain and maintain motivation?

Motivation to build healthy behaviors or to change unwanted habits is not born in us; it must be developed and nurtured.  The first step in the process of change is commitment, to yourself. Yes, we all make the commitment, but it seems to get always get lost in the daily hassle of life's stressors. So we fight fire with fire by developing daily daily strategies for success.  It's the small daily commitments that grow into monthly, yearly and lifetime changes.  Start today to "build" a new and healthy you by making a contract with yourself to lead a healthier life by making small daily changes.  Write the contract down, sign it, and place it in a place where you will se it daily.

Step two is to set your goals, but remember, one man's medicine is another man's poison so be sure to "know thyself".  Do you enjoy exercising alone or with a buddy?  Do you tend to overeat in the evening? The important idea is to set goals that will work for you and only you.  Some people may disagree with your goals, but they are yours and the only requirement is that it's your way of getting healthy.

Lastly, motivation takes daily nurturing and this can be easy when you understand some of the psychological truisms as presented in Building a New and Healthy You.  There are forty daily motivational quotes by Janine Lariviere to help you begin that journey to a healthy, more positive and physically fit you.
